about
This track was entirely recorded while in quarantine. All of the choir vocals you hear were recorded and sent to me by folks recording themselves on their cellphones, webcams, etc... Self - isolation and oceans be damned, you guys created pure magick and I am forever in your debt.
This has been a mammoth task but through the efforts of the quarantine choir,it has been elevated above some silly and naive idea I had and has supplied me with many misty-eyed moments.
This song isn't mine. It belongs to the quarantine choir. I can never thank all of you enough.
I love you.
Thank you.
lyrics
Chamath Palihapitiya:
"... on Main Street today, people are getting wiped out and right now, rich CEOs are not, boards that had horrible governance are not, hedge funds are not. PEOPLE ARE. 6 million people just this week alone basically saying: "Holy mackerel, I don't know how I'm going to make my own expenses for the next few weeks, days months...". So it's happening today to individual Americans and what we've done is disproportionately prop up and protect poor performing CEOs, companies, and boards... and you have to wash these people out! Let's just be clear, like, who are we talking about? We're talking about a hedge fund that serves a bunch of billionaire family offices? Who cares? Let 'em get wiped out! Who cares? ... They don't get to summer in the Hamptons? WHO CARES?!"
When there's nothing to say
that ain't already been talked about
feels like the ship ain't just sailed it has run aground.
When your leadership fails you
n' gives you that run around
feels like the ship ain't just sailed it has run aground...
We're out here on the frontlines with our fears keeping us awake at night.
If we're so essential why don't it look that way when we go to check our bank accounts?
Oh, you're making good and damn sure that rent check comes on time,
getting your meals delivered curb-side...
If it ain't obvious we live in two different worlds
why did it take so little to bring yours crashing down?
time to pay that piper now...
CHORUS:
Seems like your ship ain't just sailed, it has run aground.
The jig is up, the blindfold removed for us down here at the bottom.
All of us rats and snot-nosed brats can see the blood on your hands
and we may forgive you in time
but trust and believe, WE WILL NEVER FORGET.
Brothers, sisters, and others
grab your pitchforks and torches
things can't go back to the way they were before if...
together we're gonna' survive.
Rise up, everybody. Rise up.
together is how we survive.
Rise up, everybody. Rise up.
